The story
Valentine Vane was hosting a gala to announce his engagement to a mystery woman, but he was murdered before the reveal. The guests—his business partners, his oldest friends, and his disgraced relatives—all had reasons to want him gone. The murder weapon, a sharpened decorative arrow from a Cupid statue, suggests a crime of passion or a very calculated symbolic execution. Players must navigate the manor's floor plan and the complex relationships of the three couples to find the truth.
Setting: Heartwood Manor, a sprawling Victorian estate filled with secret passages, a glass-domed conservatory, and a labyrinthine wine cellar, currently isolated by a heavy February snowstorm.

Questions
Is Death at Heartwood Manor suitable for a teen murder mystery party?
While the theme is primarily designed as an adult murder mystery party due to its sophisticated plot points—like inheritance disputes, gambling debts, and 'sordid' character details—it can be adapted for mature teens. However, the humor and complex web of blackmail (like Portia's history as 'The Magpie') are truly optimized for an adult murder mystery dinner party where guests can fully lean into the 'Love isn't the only thing that's dead' tagline.
What makes Death at Heartwood Manor stand out compared to a standard murder mystery board game?
Unlike a standard murder mystery board game, this mystery party offers a unique 'snowed-in' isolation mechanic that heightens the comedy and tension. With specific clues like luxury loafer footprints and secret service tunnels, it is a highly interactive murder mystery party game. The plot twist involving a scheduled 'lights-out' toast makes it a memorable, immersive experience that feels like starring in your own comedic mystery film.
What kind of atmosphere can I expect from the Death at Heartwood Manor murder mystery party theme?
This adult murder mystery game blends a classic 'whodunnit' Victorian setting with high-stakes comedy. While the sprawling estate and heavy February snowstorm create an isolated, tense backdrop, the characters—like a temperamental celebrity chef and a jewel-thief-turned-philanthropist—keep the mood light and hilariously chaotic. It is the perfect choice for a murder mystery dinner party game where you want sophistication mixed with plenty of laughs.
How much acting is required for the 6 characters in this adult murder mystery?
Each player in this 6-person murder mystery game receives a detailed public profile and sordid secrets, making roleplay intuitive even for beginners. Whether you are playing the debt-ridden Xavier or the 'trophy wife' Celeste, the comedy-focused script encourages big personalities. It is an immersive murder mystery game experience where the humor comes naturally from the characters’ conflicting motives, like a chef losing his sense of taste or a colorblind jeweler.
Do I need to build secret passages to host this murder mystery party at home?
No need to hire a construction crew to pull off this caper. While the story features a glass-domed conservatory and a wine cellar, your murder mystery party kit includes everything you need to transform any space. You can easily use room signs or simple props like a decorative arrow or wine glasses to bring Heartwood Manor to life. This kit is designed to help you host a murder mystery party with ease, making it one of the best murder mystery games for first-time hosts.
How many people can play?
6 to 14 players. The 6 main characters are included for $29.95; add up to 8 more at $7.00 each ($43.95 for 8, $71.95 for 12, $85.95 for 14).
Can a large group play?
Yes. In large group mode some guests play the characters and everyone else joins detective teams, up to 200 people. Large group mode comes with a Non-profit or Business license.
Do I need to print anything?
No. Guests get their characters and clues on their phones, and the host runs each round, the accusations and the reveal from the Game Room, with narrator audio and a TV mode. A printable kit is included if you prefer paper.
How long does the game take?
About 2.5 hours, played over several rounds, usually alongside dinner or drinks.
How soon can I start?
Straight away. The game appears in My Games right after checkout, where you can send invitations and assign characters.
