The story
Big Sal Vizzini, the undisputed boss of the North Side, was murdered during a 10-minute drum solo by the house band. He was found slumped over his mahogany desk, shot once through the heart. The weapon is missing. The suspects include his most trusted enforcer, his glamorous singer, a rival mob scion, a corrupt detective on his payroll, his timid accountant, and his own daughter. As the club goes into lockdown, the tension rises. The investigation must uncover how the killer escaped a locked room and which of these loyal followers had a motive worth more than Sal's life.
Setting: The Velvet Lounge, a lavish underground speakeasy in 1928 Chicago. The scene includes the main jazz floor, the circular bar, the backstage dressing rooms, and the upstairs office where the murder occurred, accessible only by a private staircase or a hidden service elevator.
